MAKING SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY HAPPEN: Our commitment towards transforming a carbon-neutral operation

 

Nemak's purpose has always revolved around contributing to a more sustainable automotive industry. Since our origins, we have supported our customers' needs to minimize the environmental impact of their vehicles through innovative lightweighting solutions.

The challenge started with fuel consumption, and the need to reduce the amount of CO2 that vehicles generated. Today, amid a deep transformation of the industry, that issue has evolved into a more holistic assessment of each vehicle's carbon footprint, which includes its entire supply chain regardless of its propulsion system.

Our commitment to making sustainable mobility possible is stronger than ever. We continue driving several actions towards our goal of becoming a carbon-neutral operation by 2050. To this end, we are proud to share that we are publicly announcing Nemak's Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction targets by the year 2030.

Having completed a rigorous validation process with the Science Based Targets initiative, Nemak is now committing to achieve a 28% absolute reduction in scope 1 and 2 GHG —direct and certain indirect emissions, respectively— by 2030, starting from a 2019 base year.

Nemak also commits to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services by 14% over the same timeframe.

These targets align with the well-below 2°C pathway drawn from the Paris Agreement, which calls for a worldwide commitment to limit the increase in the global average temperature to well-below 2°C, and to strive for just 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Nemak proudly participates in some of the most important sustainability indexes, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes and the FTSE4Good Index Series, as manifestation of its commitment towards sustainability.
